# Bot Activation Status — Enable or Disable for a User

> Enable or disable your Botsify bot for a specific end-user identified by fbId. Useful for handing conversations to live agents or resuming automation.

Enable or disable your Botsify bot for a specific end-user, identified by their Messenger user ID (`fbId`). When the bot is disabled for a user, it stops responding to their messages — useful for handing a conversation off to a live agent or pausing automation for a specific user. Changing the status takes effect immediately.

## Request

**apikey** `string` *required*

Your bot's API key. Alternatively, pass the same value as the `X-Api-Key` request header instead of including it in the body.

**fbId** `string` *required*

The unique identifier of the end-user whose bot activation status you want to change. Typically a Facebook Messenger user ID or your own custom session identifier.

**status** `string` *required*

The target activation status to set for the user. Use your platform's supported status values (e.g. `active` to enable the bot, `inactive` to disable it).

## Example

Disable the bot for a specific user (e.g. to hand off to a live agent):

```bash theme={null}
curl --request POST \
  --url https://app.botsify.com/api/v1/change-bot-activation-by-muId \
  --header 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  --data '{
    "apikey": "YOUR_BOT_API_KEY",
    "fbId": "user-session-123",
    "status": "inactive"
  }'
```

Re-enable the bot for a user after a live agent session ends:

```bash theme={null}
curl --request POST \
  --url https://app.botsify.com/api/v1/change-bot-activation-by-muId \
  --header 'X-Api-Key: YOUR_BOT_API_KEY' \
  --header 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  --data '{
    "fbId": "user-session-123",
    "status": "active"
  }'
```

## Response

A successful `200 OK` response confirms the status change for the specified user.

| Field | Type | Description |
| - | - | - |
| `fbId` | string | The user identifier whose activation status was changed. |
| `status` | string | The new activation status that was applied. |
| `success` | boolean | `true` when the status change was applied successfully. |

```json theme={null}
{
  "fbId": "user-session-123",
  "status": "inactive",
  "success": true
}
```
